so i did a server upgrade which trashed my config files, so after letting it sit and think about what its done for a few months i finally got off my butt and fixed it

no i just need to do something with it……….

Things around our house are always changing (but that is nothing new for those of you who know us)  We have had our share of losses with our animals, Shade died of cancer; she was 12, Mickey died of a neuromuscular issue; she was 15, and Burbanks died of old age at the young age of 20 Years old.  We miss them all!  So now we have Zoie; age 2 and Lelu who is 6 months.  They are both crazy and they love to play!

Stephen is again working 2 jobs and getting ready for the new semester of college to start.

Sami’s band ended in October and for the first time in Rockwood history; the Marching band was undefeated in all the competitions.  The entire band worked very hard for this achievement and I couldn’t be more proud! 

I am very excited to tell you that May 2011 not only will Sami graduate from high school, but Rockwood Summit Silver Falcon Marching Band will be going to Hawaii at which time they will be playing taps on the Arizona and playing with the Navy band on the Missouri!  There will be lots of fundraisers that Sami will have to get her on this trip.  If you would like more information, let me know.  I am sure that I will be sending out more later.  

The Komen St Louis Race for the Cure has been announced:  it will be June 12, 2010.  I will again have the We Are Family Team and I would love to have you be a part of this.  I will keep you updated when more information becomes available.  Since doing the 60 mile walk I am more determined than ever to do whatever I can to get us closer to a cure.  I have decided that I will be doing another 60 mile walk next year and I am already recruiting friends to join me in this exciting adventure!

Now that the 60 Mile Walk is finished, I will be able to update the page with things other than my progress.

Stephen is currently working part time is looking for full time until the next session of school starts.  If you know of a company that has openings please send me the information.  He is taking classes towards his 2 year degree in business and then wants to transfer to MO State, look out Springfield, Stephen and Jake together again…….. = TROUBLE.

Sami turned 16 in June and got her license on her birthday, she has been driving ever since.  I must say, it is a lot easier on me with her school, band and hopefully a job that she is constantly running.  Band has been going very well for her this year, she is the section leader for the saxophones again and the first two competitions this year they won 1^st place and brought home 11 trophies in one day.  The band looks amazing and I am sure they will finish 1^st the rest of the season.  GSL is Saturday, October 24, 2009 if anyone is interested in watching the best bands compete for 1^st place.

I want to thank everyone who supported me with my decision to do the 60 mile walk.  Here is a recap of the 3 days in Denver:

The 2009 Denver Breast Cancer 3-Day began with an emotional Opening Ceremony at Colorado Mills Mall in Lakewood. We traveled through many quaint neighborhoods and parks, where we were supported along the way by the community through Lakewood and Littleton. The sun shone throughout the day, as we enjoyed majestic mountain and city views. We stopped to put on fun costumes and take photos in the photo booth at Pit Stop Three, and even had a visit from the Energizer Bunny at Pit Stop Four. We ended the day by being cheered into camp by the Columbine High School Cheerleaders, who also helped carry our gear and set up our tents. That night, we were entertained at the camp show by the Columbine High School Dance Team, the Dancing Divas, and of course the 3-Day Rock Star Karaoke contestants.

Saturday’s 19.2-mile journey began with a view of hot air balloons flying over the mountains, and the sun shining brightly. We were given a nice morning pick-me-up as McDonald’s was outside handing out coffee and tea. As we traveled the neighborhoods, trails and parks of Littleton and Centennial, we had many people from the community cheering us along the way. We were cheered into Pit Stop Two by the Arapahoe High School Cheerleaders, and took photos in front of the pirate ice sculpture. As we walked through Historic Downtown Littleton near the end of the day, we were serenaded by “Elvis” then greeted by the Energizer Bunny again at Pit Stop Four. After a glorious sunset over the mountains at camp, we got our groove on at the dance party.

Our final day began with a quick bus ride to Littleton High School, and then a walk through the beautiful Cherry Hills Village neighborhood. It was chilly and cloudy, but we were in good spirits. We were cheered on by family and friends as we walked through the Denver University Campus, and rested for lunch at Denver’s historic South High School. After stopping to smell the flowers at Pit Stop Three in Alamo Placita Park, we continued towards downtown Denver along the Cherry Creek Bike Trail. Before reaching the home stretch, we rested in the heart of Denver at Pit Stop Four in Civic Center Park, where the Denver Art Museum, City Hall and the Colorado State Capitol Building surrounded us. After a 16.2-mile day, we celebrated the end of our journey with a joyous Closing Ceremony at City Park with views of the Denver skyline and the Rocky Mountains over City Park Lake.

Firs ther was the upgrades from Fedora 10 to Fedora 11. Normaly I would use yum to perform a online update. This time I used a pacakage called pre-upgrade, basicly it downloads all the packages needed to do the upgrade then reboots and does then install but skips all the disk layout and network settings.

It worked perfectly well on my webserver and fileserver, but on a server that has its boot partiton it failed. The upgrade cant load the drivers and then upgrade them. so its back to a online upgrade for that server.

Then after the upgrade i swiched the bolg from Serendipity to wordpress. I kept having issues with the Serendipity install when i tried to use theweather plugin allong with the calendar it would choke. The developrs where super nice in helping me, but in the end i went with wordpress becaus it has a massive amount of plugins and the updated are simple becaus its packaged inside fedora.

Thats the short version of the upgrades.

60 Miles in 3 Days!

On I have taken on an incredible challenge. On August 28-30, 2009 I’ll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, in hopes of getting closer to finding a cure for Breast Cancer.  This walk will be held in Denver, CO.

It’s for an event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising 4000.00 to help bring us closer to that goal.

I hosted a fundraiser at Nadines Gin Joint & Café on April 4, 2009, And I was able to raise 1700.00 towards my goal of raising 4000.00 for this walk.  I want to thank everyone who came out, enjoyed the day and helped me achieve such a nice amount of money to start with.
